It is often quicker to cut up ingredients using a pair of kitchen scissors rather than a knife; for example, to chop herbs or cut upĀ  anchovy (netholi) fish and fillets, stoned olives or spring onions. These can be often sniped directly into the pan.

it is easier to use hands to tear up salad leaves than using a knife. Tearing also causes less damage to the tender leaves. Hands are also fastest tool for flaking cooked fish, tearing up cooked chicken and crumbled cheese.
